Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 epic, transposing Conrad's Heart of Darkness to the Vietnam War. Captain Willard journeys by patrol boat up the fictional Nung River, from the Vietnamese coast toward Cambodia, to find Colonel Kurtz, who has set himself up as a god deep in the jungle. The route inland is a descent, each stop further from sanity than the last.
