Richard Linklater's 2004 sequel, set nine years on and running close to real time. Jesse is in Paris on the last afternoon of a book tour when Celine walks into the shop. They have a little over an hour before his flight, and they spend all of it walking - and the film is that walk, almost unbroken, across five arrondissements.

   Shakespeare and Company

   Jesse is taking questions about This Time, the novel he wrote about one night in Vienna, when he looks up and Celine is at the back of the shop. He has a car to the airport in a little over an hour.

   The Marais

   Out through the Latin Quarter and over the river into the Marais, walking because neither of them will suggest sitting down - nine years of catching up compressed into the first twenty minutes.

   Le Pure Cafe

   Coffee at a corner cafe on the rue Jean Mace, where the talk gets closer to the bone: what each of them did afterwards, and which of them actually went back to Vienna six months later.

   The Promenade Plantee

   Celine takes him up onto the old railway viaduct, a garden suspended above the twelfth arrondissement - and the film's geography quietly stops adding up, because the walking matters more than the map.

   Quai de la Tournelle

   Down off the viaduct and back to the river, improbably close to where they started. Jesse decides to do something touristy, and getting on a boat buys them another twenty minutes.

   Quai Henri IV

   On the water, with Notre-Dame going past, Celine finally says the thing she has been circling all afternoon - and the flight stops being a deadline and starts being a decision.

   Cour de l'Etoile d'Or

   A taxi she meant to take alone, a courtyard, and then her flat. She makes tea and plays him a waltz she wrote, and he settles back in the chair, and the film ends on the line before he answers.
