Rick Riordan's middle-grade homage to Jules Verne, set in the present day of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Mysterious Island. When her marine-science academy is destroyed, freshman Ana Dakkar - the last descendant of Captain Nemo - flees across the Pacific to Lincoln Island, the long-hidden base where Nemo's living submarine, the Nautilus, has waited a century and a half. Pursued by a rival school's sub, she crosses the whole ocean and back to defend her impossible inheritance.

   Three days across the Pacific to Captain Nemo's hidden atoll, where the living Nautilus has lain since his death.

   Fleeing the enemy sub at impossible speed, the Nautilus surfaces in the western Pacific, where Ana befriends a giant octopus and makes repairs.

   Lincoln Island (return)

   She races back across the ocean to Lincoln Island for the final battle, and wins the right to Nemo's legacy.
