Raoul Duke and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo, load a convertible with an absurd arsenal of drugs and roar from Los Angeles across the Mojave to Las Vegas, ostensibly to cover a desert motorcycle race, in a hallucinatory and savage search for the American Dream amid the casinos and the wreckage of the sixties.

   Los Angeles

   Raoul Duke and his attorney load the Great Red Shark with a suitcase of every drug imaginable and set off for Las Vegas to cover a desert motorcycle race.

   The Mojave Desert

   Somewhere around Barstow the drugs take hold, and the desert fills with bats and lizards and pure savage terror.

   Las Vegas

   They descend into Las Vegas, a neon hellscape of casinos, hotels, and paranoia, hunting the American Dream and finding only its corpse.
