Journeys from fiction drawn on the real world

Alistair MacLean · 1968 · thriller

Alistair MacLean's 1968 sequel to The Guns of Navarone. Their famous mission barely over, Mallory, Miller and Andrea are flown to Italy and parachuted into the frozen mountains of Nazi-occupied Yugoslavia. Amid Partisans, Chetniks and double agents, their true target is a great dam above a gorge - to be blown apart to drown a German armoured division in a wall of water.

  1. 1
    Termoli

Fresh from silencing the guns of Navarone, Mallory, Miller and Andrea are hurried to the airfield at Termoli in Italy and briefed for a new mission - to parachute into Yugoslavia and aid a partisan army trapped by the Germans.

  2. 2
    Yugoslavia

They drop into the frozen mountains of Bosnia, into a world of Partisans, Chetnik collaborators and enemy patrols, where nobody is what they seem and their true mission must stay hidden even from their allies.

  3. 3
    The Neretva dam

Their objective is the dam on the Neretva gorge: with a German armoured division massing to cross the river and crush the Partisans, Mallory means to blow the dam and loose a wall of water to sweep the enemy away.
