Michael Morpurgo's 2008 novel, narrated by Johnny Trott, a bellboy at the Savoy Hotel in London. He inherits the care of Kaspar, a beautiful black cat left behind by a Russian countess. When an American guest, Lizziebeth, and her family sail home aboard the Titanic, Johnny smuggles Kaspar aboard, and the three of them live through the sinking and its aftermath to reach New York. The route follows Kaspar from the Savoy to the New World.

   At the Savoy Hotel in London, the bellboy Johnny Trott becomes the keeper of Kaspar, an aristocratic cat orphaned when his Russian countess dies.

   Johnny carries Kaspar down to Southampton and smuggles him aboard the Titanic, sailing with the young American girl Lizziebeth and her family.

   In the freezing North Atlantic the great ship strikes ice and goes down; amid the chaos of the lifeboats Johnny, Lizziebeth and Kaspar survive the wreck.

   Plucked from the sea, they are carried on to New York, where Kaspar the cat begins a new life in the New World.
