   The Highlands

   Sold to the Duke of Rudling and taken to his estate in the far north of Scotland, Lassie pines for her old home and at last slips her collar to start the long journey south.

   The Borders

   Down through the Highlands and across the border country she goes, swimming rivers, crossing moors, helped by some and hunted by others, always turning south.

   Greenall Bridge

   Footsore and half-starved, she reaches the Yorkshire village of Greenall Bridge and the schoolyard where the boy Joe waits, faithful to the end.
