David Lean's 1962 epic, the story of T.E. Lawrence and the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire in the First World War. A young British officer is sent into the desert, throws in his lot with Prince Feisal's Arabs, and leads them on the audacious overland march to take Aqaba and the long campaign north to Damascus, becoming a legend and losing himself in the process. The route runs from Cairo across the deserts of Arabia.

   Cairo

   From the British headquarters in Cairo, the eccentric young Lieutenant Lawrence is sent to assess the Arab Revolt against the Turks.

   Suez

   He crosses to Suez and takes ship down the Red Sea toward the Hejaz and the camps of the Arab princes.

   Wejh

   In the desert he joins Prince Feisal and conceives a daring plan, to cross the furnace of the Nefud and take the port of Aqaba from the landward side, where its guns cannot turn.

   Aqaba

   After a brutal march across waterless sand, the Arab force falls upon Aqaba from the desert and takes it, a victory that makes Lawrence's name.

   Damascus

   He leads the revolt north through Arabia, harrying the railway and the Turkish columns, until the Arabs sweep at last into Damascus, where the dream of Arab unity meets the hard reckoning of politics.
