   He reaches the Istrian coast and is swept out to sea, presumed drowned.

   Fifteen years on, the mysterious Doctor Antekirtt finds the widow and son of his betrayed friend Báthory.

   His swift yacht works down the Adriatic past the deep bay of Cattaro.

   At Malta he closes on the traitors and the cutthroat Carpena.
