Antoine Fuqua · 2003 · survival
Antoine Fuqua's 2003 war film. As a coup plunges Nigeria into ethnic slaughter, a Navy SEAL team under Lieutenant Waters is sent to pluck an American doctor from her jungle mission. She refuses to leave her patients, and Waters - against orders - turns back to escort a column of refugees on foot through the jungle toward the Cameroon border, the rebels closing in behind them mile by mile.
- 1The mission
Deep in the southern Nigerian jungle, Dr. Lena Kendricks runs a Catholic mission hospital in the path of the advancing rebels - the American the SEALs are ordered to extract, and no one else.
- 2The jungle
Turning back for the refugees he first abandoned, Waters leads them on foot through the bush - past a village being massacred - realizing too late that the rebels are tracking a fugitive prince hidden among them.
- 3The Cameroon border
At the frontier the SEALs make a bloody last stand, calling in airstrikes as the rebels close, and get the survivors across the line into Cameroon - the cost paid in their own dead.
