Paroled from Joliet prison, Jake and Elwood Blues set out on a mission from God to save the Catholic orphanage where they grew up, reuniting their R&B band and raising the money with one last gig, pursued by police, Nazis and a country band across Illinois in the battered Bluesmobile.

A hundred miles north they pack out the Palace Hotel Ballroom for the big show, then slip away with the cash as police, Nazis and country singers converge.

In a city-wrecking chase they race the Bluesmobile back to the Cook County Assessor at the Daley Center, paying the orphanage's tax with seconds to spare.
