Frederick Forsyth · 1994 · thriller

Frederick Forsyth's 1994 Gulf War thriller. As the Coalition masses in Saudi Arabia, the SAS officer Mike Martin is slipped into occupied Kuwait as a Bedouin, then into Baghdad itself to run a spy inside Saddam's circle. What the agent Jericho reports is a doomsday weapon nobody believed in - and finding it before the ground war begins falls to Martin alone.

  1. 1
    Riyadh

At Coalition headquarters in Riyadh, a radio intercept mentioning Qubth-ut-Allah, the Fist of God, is dismissed by almost everyone - and Major Mike Martin, an Arabic-speaking SAS officer, is readied for a mission north.

  2. 2
    Kuwait City

Slipping into occupied Kuwait City disguised as a poor Bedouin, Martin builds a resistance network among the young Kuwaitis, radioing back Iraqi strengths and dispositions while the occupiers hunt the source of the sabotage.

  3. 3
    Baghdad

Pulled out and sent deeper still, Martin works as a humble gardener in Baghdad while running Jericho, a traitor at the heart of Saddam's council - leaving chalk marks and dead drops under the noses of the secret police.

  4. 4
    Jabal Hamrin

Jericho's last report sends Martin parachuting into the northern hills to find the weapon itself, hidden in the rock - and the ground assault waits four days on one man alone in the mountains of Iraq.
