Jamie Uys's 1980 comedy follows Xi, a San tribesman of the Kalahari, on a long walk to rid his people of a Coca-Cola bottle dropped from the sky. Convinced the gods must be crazy, he carries it across Botswana to the edge of the world, a cliff above the clouds, to throw it away.

    The Kalahari

    In the deep Kalahari, Xi and his band want for nothing, until a Coca-Cola bottle falls from a passing plane and sows envy and strife among people who had never known either.

    The Edge of the Bush

    Deciding the gods must be crazy to send such a thing, Xi sets out to carry the evil bottle to the end of the earth, wandering into the baffling world of farms, roads and heavy people.

    The Edge of the World

    At the great escarpment, where the land falls away into cloud, Xi hurls the bottle over the edge of the world and turns at last for home.
