In Nazi-occupied France, two estranged sisters resist in their own ways: Vianne shelters the vulnerable in her Loire village while her fearless younger sister Isabelle, code-named the Nightingale, joins the Resistance and guides downed Allied airmen on foot over the Pyrenees to freedom, until betrayal lands her in a German camp.

    Betrayed at last, Isabelle is captured and deported to a German concentration camp, having saved more than a hundred lives.
