Jules Verne's 1880 adventure, also known as The End of Nana Sahib. In 1867 a party of British colonials and their French companion tour India in a wheeled house drawn by a giant steam-powered mechanical elephant named Behemoth, which walks the roads and floats the rivers alike. As they cross the country, the vengeful shadow of the rebel leader Nana Sahib, supposedly dead since the Mutiny of 1857, falls across their path.

   South across the wilds of Central India, lured toward a trap, the great elephant driven at last into a lake.
