Peter Weir's 2010 film, inspired by The Long Walk. A handful of prisoners escape a Soviet labour camp in Siberia and set out on foot toward freedom - an impossible journey of four thousand miles south past Lake Baikal, across the Gobi, through China, and over the Himalayas into India.

   The Siberian Gulag

   A handful of prisoners break out of a Soviet labour camp into the Siberian winter and begin an impossible walk south toward freedom.

   Lake Baikal

   They reach the shore of the great frozen lake, the first landmark on a journey of four thousand miles on foot.

   The Gobi Desert

   Across Mongolia the desert nearly finishes them, killing with thirst and heat where the snow had failed.

   The Great Wall

   They slip over the Great Wall into China, still walking, still hunted, their number steadily dwindling.

   The Himalayas

   Over the roof of the world they climb, through Tibet and the high snows of the great mountains.

   India

   The survivors walk down out of the mountains into India, and freedom, more than a year after they began.
