Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 adventure. Jim Hawkins finds a map in a dead buccaneer's sea chest and sails from Bristol aboard the Hispaniola for an uncharted Caribbean island - and discovers on the way out that the ship's cook has recruited the crew. Five of the men who sailed come home again.

   The Admiral Benbow

   A West Country inn where an old seaman with a sabre cut drinks rum and watches the road, and dies of a stroke when the black spot is delivered - and the boy who serves him finds an oilskin packet in his sea chest.

   Bristol

   Squire Trelawney buys the schooner Hispaniola and, being unable to keep a secret, tells half the port what she is for - and takes on a one-legged cook at the sign of the Spy-glass who assembles the crew himself.

   Treasure Island

   The stockade, the apple barrel, Ben Gunn three years marooned and mad for cheese, and Israel Hands at the masthead - and Flint's cache found already dug out and empty, which is when the pirates turn on Silver.

   Spanish America

   Short-handed, they put in at the nearest port to recruit sailors for the crossing - and Long John Silver goes over the side in a shore boat with a sack of coin worth three or four hundred guineas, and is never heard of again.

   Bristol

   The Hispaniola comes home just as Blandly is fitting out a ship to look for her. Five men only of those who had sailed returned with her - and Jim still dreams of the surf on that coast and the parrot calling pieces of eight.
