James Joyce's modern Odyssey, following one ordinary Dublin day - 16 June 1904. Advertising canvasser Leopold Bloom and the young poet Stephen Dedalus wander the city on separate paths that slowly converge, from a breakfast kidney and a graveside to a maternity ward, the brothel quarter, and home again to Eccles Street and Molly's final yes.

   Buck Mulligan calls from the stairhead of the Martello tower where Stephen Dedalus lodges, and the long day begins.

   Leopold Bloom fries a kidney for his breakfast at number seven and steps out into the waking city.

   Bloom rides in the funeral of Paddy Dignam and broods among the graves on the dead and the living.

   At Davy Byrnes, Bloom takes a gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of burgundy in the middle of his day.

   On the evening strand Bloom watches Gerty MacDowell as the bazaar fireworks climb the sky.

   At the maternity hospital the wandering paths of Bloom and Stephen at last cross and hold.

   Into Nighttown, the brothel quarter, where the night dissolves into hallucination and reckoning.
