A woman named Rowan is shipwrecked on Shearwater, a remote sub-Antarctic island where a lone family guards the world's largest seed vault against the rising sea, and where the truth of why she came, and what became of the vanished researchers, slowly surfaces.

   Rowan and her husband Hank lose their Outback home to a brushfire, and when he disappears to a research island at the end of the world, she resolves to follow.

   Hobart

   From the Tasmanian edge of the map she takes ship into the Southern Ocean, telling no one the true reason she is bound for Shearwater.

   Shearwater Island

   Wrecked and half-drowned, she washes ashore among the grieving Salt family and their flooding seed vault, where every answer is guarded and the water keeps rising.
